Marcia
is a San Francisco based textile artist whose award-winning work has
been shown in a number of juried exhibitions at galleries, museums
and quilt shows throughout the county and included in several public
and private collections. She graduated from the University of Michigan
and took up quilting in 1992, after a lifelong interest in other needle
arts and has been pursuing her interest in textile full-time since
1996.
Marcia was referred to Santa Barbara Quilting Retreats by another
of our teachers, Andi Perejda. When I visited her website on Andi
suggestion I was so excited by her art that I contacted her that same
day to see if she would consider joining us. So I am extremely happy
to say that she will be teaching for us.
Her
retreat is titled “Picture This” and she will be teaching
us to machine appliqué a small quilt top using your own photo
for inspiration. You will choose among several methods of stitching
a narrow zigzag over raw, fused and turned-under edges. We’ll
discuss how to achieve depth, when and how to add design elements
and how to simplify your design without sacrificing its essence. No
drawing skills are required.
Please
join us for a wonderful experience!
